4 ways to use the Mountain Blanket

The Kammok Mountain Blanket is a versatile piece of equipment that can be used in a variety of ways.

  1. ground blanket
  2. top quilt
  3. sleeping bag
  4. poncho

Ground Blanket – As a ground blanket, it provides insulation, cushioning, and protection from wet, cold, or dirty ground. Lay it on the ground, water resistant side down, and you have a nice insulated ground cloth to lay on. The outer shell material sheds dirt and ground debris well. Give it a shake before rolling it up and most of the mess is gone.

MB Ground blanket

Top Quilt – The Mountain Blanket works great as a top quilt or blanket. It’s intended purpose. It is heavy and thick feeling. The fleece inner lining feels soft and cozy.

Sleeping Bag – The mountain blanket offers ample space for an adult and can be used with a Sleeping Pad for added comfort. Fold the Mountain Blanket in half to use as a sleeping bag. You can fill the stuff sack up and use it as a pillow. Hook 2 Mountain Blankets together to make a 2 person sleeping bag.

MB Sleeping bag

Poncho – The Mountain Blanket can be worn as a poncho in cold or wet weather. It makes a nice warm piece of outerwear. The one downside to using it as a poncho is its lack of a hood. There is no hood built in. There isn’t one available to snap onto the opening.

At 4 lbs 6 oz the Mountain Blanket is a bit heavy for backpacking use. It packs into a nice compact size, similar to most sleeping bags, that can be stored almost anywhere.

Using the Kammok Mountain Blanket

We have spent some time outdoors with the Mountain Blanket getting to know it. It’s warm and comfortable. It’s a really handy piece of gear good for a lot of uses.

Comfort

The Kammok Mountain Blanket is very comfortable. It’s warm and soft. It is great whether you want something to keep you warmer in your sleeping bag or want to cover up sitting by the fire. It always gives you a warm fuzzy feeling.

Warmth

The Mountain Blanket will add a lot of heat to your sleeping bag or ground mat. It is a great way to make your tent feel warm all night. The fleece is very thick feeling and will keep you warm on the coldest nights. It works great at home too when you want to get cozy on the couch.

It’s quite warm to wear as a poncho. It won’t replace a winter coat on a freezing day. It works well on cool spring and fall days.

Cleanup

The water resistant shell side of the blanket stays very dry and clean when used over dirt or grass. Just a little shake and it’s clean. Leaves and other debris can stick and cling to the fleece side if it goes face down on the ground. The whole blanket is machine wash safe. You can just toss it in the washer when you get home.

Mountain Blanket Stuff Sack

A matching stuff sack is included for storage. It has the same waterproof shell and fleece construction as the blanket. It is just barely big enough to fit the Mountain Blanket back in.

The stuff sack works great as a pillow case. Fill it up with some clothes and you have a really good pillow.

Modularity with other Kammok blankets

The Mountain Blanket is one of three All Adventure Blankets designed to easily connect with each other. You can join the blankets together to make one big blanket. This will keep you warm and dry. You can also snap the blankets onto your Roo hammock gear loops to make a toasty top quilt.

Other uses for the Mountain blanket

There are so many ways to use a Kammok Mountain Blanket beyond camping. Keep one in the car for winter emergencies, like if you get stranded in a snowstorm. It’s also great for outdoor dining when restaurants open up again. Throw it on as a poncho to stay warm while eating. If you live in a colder climate, bring it with you when you sleep on your porch or patio in the summer. The blanket is perfect for picnics and outdoor concerts, too. Just throw it over your shoulders to stay warm, or use it as a ground cover to keep your clothes clean and dry. There are endless possibilities!

Other blankets to consider

What are some of the other popular camping blankets and how do they compare?

Rumpl NanoLoft Puffy Blanket

The Rumpl NanoLoft Puffy Blanket is similar in that it’s also filled with down and made with water-resistant nylon, but it has a more puffy, quilted look.

Kammok Firebelly Trail Quilt

The Kammok Firebelly Trail Quit is very lightweight and packable like a down puffy coat. It has a water resistant shell with down filler. It has some of the same features as the Mountain Blanket including poncho opening and modular snaps.

Kelty Bestie Blanket

The Kelty Bestie Blanket is a great choice if you want something especially soft and cozy. It has fleece linings on both sides. Both sides are different with different textures. Neither side is water resistant or waterproof.

REI Camp Wrap

The REI Camp Wrap is a good all purpose camping blanket. It has a water resistant quilted nylon shell that is filled with synthetic insulation. Both sides are nylon. There is no soft fleece lining on either side. It has a built in hood. It will keep your head warm and dry if you wear it as a poncho.

I’d rather spend 3 hours taking my bike apart and learning how to change something than go to a bike shop.
