X7 Max Climbing ramp

The TurboAnt X7 Max is a 350 watt scooter with removable batteries and 10 inch pneumatic wheels. The TurboAnt X7 Pro was already an excellent performer and value and the X7 Max makes it even better. It has a top speed of 20 mph and range of up to 32mph. The drive unit is new with better performance. The detachable battery has dual latches and a key lock.

The deck has been raised higher off the ground compared to the X7 Pro. This gives it more ground clearance and better ride and handling. If you look at the rear of the deck you will notice it curves down towards the rear wheel.

It has 10 inch pneumatic tires give it an excellent ride. They are very smooth and give it good traction. I’ll take 10 inch air tires over 8.5 inch tires on a scooter any day if I have the option.

The X7 Max has an easy to use control interface. It has a disc brake and an electric brake. There are 2 buttons on the throttle control for cycling through the controller options. Any first time scooter rider will have no trouble with it.

Overall the X7 Max is a really fun to ride scooter and a great value given all the features and performance it has.

What we liked:

  • Removable battery that lets you charge anywhere and swap for more range
  • Long 32 mile range on a charge
  • Longer wider curved deck allows a more comfortable stance for adult riders
  • Powerful 350 watt motor
  • Smooth ride on 10 inch pneumatic wheels

What we didn’t like:

  • At 34 lbs it is heavy for smaller riders to carry around
  • Narrow handlebar takes a little getting used to
  • No suspension in the front wheel

The TurboAnt V8 Dual Battery Electric Scooter is a new commuting scooter from Turboant. The V8 brings a lot of new innovative features that make this the perfect commuting scooter. It has dual batteries giving it a super long range up to 50 miles. One battery can be detached for easy swapping. This gives it the potential for even more range.

The V8 upgrades the motor to 450 watts giving you better acceleration and hill climbing performance. The X7 Max was already a lot of fun to ride. The V8 pumps things up another notch.

The 9.3 inch air tires give a smooth ride. The V8 doesn’t stop there and also adds front and rear suspension to make it even smoother.

The TurboAnt M10 Folding Electric Scooter is the little brother of the TurboAnt X7 Pro. It retails for a bit over $400. Like the X7 Pro, it has 10 inch pneumatic wheels and a 350 watt motor with a 20mph top speed. That is where the similarities end. The M10 has a super easy to use interface and nonremovable battery.

It has a control panel built into the handlebars that clearly displays all information. The brake lever and throttle are integrated into the panel. M10 Lite sitting on bike path

The TurboAnt M10 Lite is the latest entry level electric scooter offering from TurboAnt. It offers a ton of bang for the buck. It is available with a coupon for just a little over $300. The M10 Lite is light on cost. It is not light on features and performance.

The M10 Lite has a 350 watt front hub motor. A lot of scooters in this price range skimp with a 250 watt motor. 350 watts gives it much better performance on hills and for carrying heavier riders.

It has a nice roomy 6.3″ deck with plenty of room for adult feet. The 8.5 inch air tires really do a good job of absorbing bumps and cracks in the pavement.

The M10 has 2 speed modes making it perfect for new riders or for letting children ride it. Speed 1 tops out at 9 mph and speed 2 lets you hit full speed at 16mph. It can go up to 15.5mph on a full charge which is decent for a $300 budget electric scooter.

  • Excellent low end power and climbing ability

Specifications

X7 Pro riding in city

The TurboAnt X7 Pro is the predecessor to the X7 Max. It has good range and speed for its price and is an excellent value. It has a top speed of 20mph and range up to 30 miles.

It has a steering tube mounted detachable battery. It doesn’t have dual latches with a key like the X7 Max.

The deck is comfortable to ride but on the narrow side at 5.7 inches. It fits adult feet but a little more width would have been nice. They took notice and gave the X7 Max a wider deck.

The detachable battery gives you the ability to double or triple the range by carrying multiple batteries. The batteries weigh about 6 lbs so they can easily be carried in a backpack. This also gives the scooter a thin looking deck that has a little more flex for comfort.

The X7 Pro has 10 inch pneumatic tires like the X7 Max. 10 inch air tires give a much smoother ride compared to 8.5 inch tires or solid tires.

What we liked:

  • 20 mph top speed
  • 30 miles range
  • detachable battery
  • 10 inch air tires give it a smooth ride
  • Easy to use controls and LCD screen
  • Customizable options in the controller

What we didn’t like:

  • Deck is narrow at 5.7 inches
  • The battery in the top tube makes it more awkward to carry with smaller hands

Guide

Max Speed

Electric scooter max speeds can range from 15 mph up to 50 mph. The majority of scooters top out at 20mph. If you have ever ridden an electric scooter you will understand that 20mph already feels pretty fast. Hitting the ground at 20mph already hurts a lot. Going faster means you really need more safety gear. It also means you may be violating local laws unless you register and insure your scooter as a moped.

The TurboAnt X7 Max, X7 Pro, V8 and M10 all top out at 20mph. The M10 lite has a top speed of 16mph. If you want to go fast we recommend getting the V8 or X7 Max.

Range

If you use an electric scooter for commuting or running errands range becomes real important. You need to make it to your destination and back. If you can’t recharge where you are going you need enough battery to go both ways. You need swappable batteries with enough juice in each battery to go 1 way.

The longest range TurboAnt scooter is the V8 with dual batteries. It can go up to 50 miles with 2 full batteries. One battery is detachable so you can add another 25 miles with an extra battery. The M10 Lite has the shortest range at 15.5 miles.

Motor Power

A bigger motor makes it easier for your scooter to climb hills. It gives it better acceleration. It also makes the scooter heavier and makes it eat battery faster.

Most TurboAnt electric scooters use 350 watt motors. The only exception is the V8 which has 450 watts. 350 watt motors can do a decent job of climbing hills with a large size over 200 lb adult rider.

Wheels

Most electric scooters have pneumatic air tires or solid rubber tires. All TurboAnt scooters have air tires.

Pneumatic Tires

Pneumatic tires are softer and produce a more cushy ride. They absorb cracks and bumps in the pavement better. They give you better traction because they have a bigger patch of rubber touching the ground. You can tune the air pressure for a stiffer or softer ride. Because they are air filled they are prone to leaks and flat tires. I have never had a flat tire before on a scooter but it can happen.

Solid Tires

You can’t get a flat tire with a solid tire. You don’t need to check the air pressure and top them off. You can leave your scooter sit all winter and it will be ready to go with no tire maintenance. They have a more rigid feeling ride than air tires. There are some new solid tires such as honeycomb tires that have more give than traditional solid tires. They aren’t that common on electric scooters yet.

Suspension

Suspension on your front and rear wheel can smooth out the ride. Air tires do a good job of providing some cushion but they can only do so much. For a really smooth ride you need to add in some front and rear suspension. Suspension becomes really important on higher speed scooters that go 30mph or more.

The TurboAnt V8 is the only TurboAnt scooter with suspension. If you want to smoothest ride go for a V8.

Batteries

The electric scooter battery determines how far it can go. The bigger the battery the bigger the range. A larger capacity battery will also perform better because it will have less voltage sag. Larger capacity cells can dish out more amps without voltage drop.

The downside to bigger batteries is weight. You don’t get more capacity without a heavier battery. Battery cells are also expensive and add cost.

To get the best scooter, you want to get the range and battery capacity you need without buying a ton of extra you won’t use. The TurboAnt V8 with 2 batteries is fun and cool. It also weighs 48 lbs. If you need to carry it into your office every day it can be a struggle. The M10 has a much smaller battery but it weighs less than 30 lbs.

The TurboAnt V8 has the most capacity at 15 amp hours. The M10 Lite has the smallest at 6.6 amp hours.

Swappable Batteries

The TurboAnt X7 Pro, X7 Max, and V8 have swappable batteries. You can take the battery off the scooter and swap in a new fully charged battery and have more range. Swappable batteries are very useful if you have a long commute. They also help if you don’t have an outlet to use for charging where you need to leave your scooter.

Dual Batteries

More batteries mean more range and more power. Having 2 batteries means twice the range.

The TurboAnt V8 is the only TurboAnt scooter with dual batteries. It gives it the longest range. It has the best power combined with a 450 watt motor.

Electric Scooter Weight

The weight of an electric scooter becomes very important if you have to carry it around. A 50 lb scooter is much harder to carry than a 30 lb scooter. If you need to carry your scooter up stairs or onto a bus or subway, lighter is better. If you need to carry your scooter every time you use it, I recommend going for the lightest scooter you can get that will get the job done.

The TurboAnt M10 and M10 Lite are the 2 lightest at around 30 lbs. The V8 is the heaviest at 47 lbs.

Scooter Weight Capacity

You should look for an electric scooter that has a weight capacity above your weight and any gear you will carry. Most scooters can carry quite a bit more weight than they are rated for. It will reduce their range and hill climbing ability. It may reduce the life of components such as the motor and battery.

I am above 220 lbs and have ridden an M10 Lite with a 220 weight limit and the performance is much better than I expected. I would get much better range, acceleration and hill climbing ability from a V8 with a 450 watt motor.
